Kilwinning is a vibrant and hardworking community of which The Academy is very much part. We are continuously looking to build on the good relationships we have with a range of outside partners.
As a school we have fostered links with the local Church groups. We have built strong relationships with the Abbey Church, Bridge Church and Congregational Church who have taken an active role in our Time for Reflection Assemblies. Moreover, we have been in contact with St Winin’s Church and our nearest mosque to support the spiritual needs of all our pupils and staff.
We also work with a range of local charities in delivering support for our young people’s wellbeing and broadening their understanding of the world around them. We work with Barnardos who provide a drop-in service for pupils on a Monday lunchtime. We also have had significant input from LGBT+ Scotland who have delivered training to staff to support our young people. Moreover, we are a keen supporter of the North Ayrshire Foodbank and provide opportunities for pupils and staff to donate non-perishable items. Our curricular areas are also keen to build links with charities to support learning, e.g. the RME Department has developed ties with the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. We also give pupils in S3 the chance to win £3,000 for a local charity so if you know a charity which would like to be considered please get in contact.
We have a close working relationship the local Rotary Club. We participate in Rotary Competitions and the Kilwinning Rotary Club present the Dux award at our annual prize-giving event.
Similarly, we enjoy a very positive relationship with the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce who support our young people on their work placement. This provides pupils with a real understanding of the world of work and experience of later life. Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce also support our staff to embed employment links within the curriculum to help our pupils achieve their full potential.
In addition, we work with other organisations to ensure our young people are safe and have an understanding of the possible impacts of their actions. We work closely with Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Both services have presented to the school to develop pupil understanding of how their actions can impact on others.
Skills Development Scotland also provide us with Career Advisers who are in school to provide quality information to pupils in order to inform their choices for career and support them towards a sustained destination.
We also enjoy relationships with local businesses and other groups such as Kilwinning Community Council and Kilwinning Abbey & Heritage Centre.
