I choose to give my very best effort in every learning situation. I am prepared to work and remain focussed and 'on task' at all times.
I listen closely to instructions and explanations at all times and adhere to all
reasonable requests. I understand that we are all different and celebrate our differences, ensuring there is a place for everyone in our school. I aim to treat everyone in a fair and equal way in our school.
I am enthusiastic and motivated in each lesson so that others are inspired to be the same.
I contribute as best I can to my learning, sticking to the task, especially when I find it difficult.
I help others feel part of Kilwinning Academy by being friendly, respecting them and including them.
I set challenging targets in my learning and do everything I possibly can to achieve or even surpass those targets, including learning on my own and with others.
Miss L Armour, Mrs J Hill and Mrs L Gillespie make up the Modern Languages team at Kilwinning Academy.
Learning a language enables learners to make connections with different people and their cultures and to play a fuller part as global citizens. The ability to use language lies at the centre of thinking and learning. Modern Languages at all stages provides learners with the opportunity to develop skills in listening and talking, reading and writing, which are essential for learning, work and life; to use different media effectively for learning and communication; and to develop understanding of how language works.
Broad General Education S1-S3
In S3, pupils will have the opportunity to specialise in either/or French and Spanish, while continuing to study French as a core language. In S3 core Modern Languages, pupils will gain awards in the vocational and transactional Languages for Work Purposes course in Modern Languages. This is a Level 4 unit qualification which pupils can be entered for in S4, to add to their range of qualifications.
Every pupil will also complete the Added Value Unit: Modern Languages: Assignment (National 4). This assignment enables learners to plan and research a chosen topic in a familiar context, using their reading and writing skills, in order to investigate connections between the topic and the modern language. The Added Value Unit is a required unit in achieving National 4.
