Languages and Literacy
The Faculty of Languages and Literacy offers an engaging learning experience for every young person across the variety of subjects and courses we offer. The skills that our learners will acquire, develop and refine in our faculty are beneficial for every pupil’s progression in Kilwinning Academy and beyond.
Language and literacy are central elements of the curriculum and are central to pupils’ learning. Through language they receive much of their knowledge and develop and express their own understandings. Language is key in allowing pupils to communicate with others whilst developing and expressing their own thoughts, beliefs and ideas.
Children communicate from the very earliest of stages of their development. Language is an integral part of their lives and learning a language will contribute to the development of their interpersonal skills.
There are three modes of learning evident in the teaching and learning of Literacy, English and Modern Languages: Listening and Talking, Reading and Writing.
