Rights Respecting Schools
We are proud to be working to become a Silver Rights Respecting School. A Rights Respecting ethos is at the heart of everything we do for young people and for each other.
Article 29 – children’s education should help them fully develop their personalities, talents and abilities.
On the 20th November 1989 the United Nations made a set of promises for every child. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international statement of all of those promises. ‘Rights’ are things that every child should have or be able to do. All children have the same rights and they do not have to be earned.
School Groups
We have a variety of groups that work to ensure every member of our school community is aware of children’s rights and has the opportunity to serve the common good and promote social justice. We aim to help young people develop skills that enable them to positively impact their community.
· Our pupil council consists of a group of elected pupils from across each year group. The group are proactive in determining funding for projects/ improvements across the school.
· The ‘Our Voice’ Rights Respecting steering group meets weekly at lunchtime. This provides young people a platform to voice their opinions on what can be done to improve the school experience for all.
· LGBT+ club meets weekly after school to provide peer support as well as discuss issues in school and in the local community. We are proud to be working towards achieving our Bronze LGBT charter award.
The school groups are excellent at identifying issues that are important to them and tackling them. We respect the views and contributions made by our school groups and aim to use these to make improvements to the school whenever possible.
